9 years old and already in the Vogue website... Calina is my daughter. She was born in '95, in a "pack" with her brother. She proved sensibility and fantasy in different ways at different ages. For example at 2 years and half, when she still couldn't really speak, she composed, yes indeed, a romantic little tune, including text. Here you have an almost-poem in two verses from the age of almost five: "It's getting dark, slowly... ...like the soul of the people". The abstract drawings that you can see here also originated at about 5. If one ignores the obvious childish hand, one may think that the design itself comes from an adult. Her sketches for a dress and a winter coat that I submitted to the Ringstrassen Galleries Fashion Award 2004 (which took place in a very central and select shopping mall in Vienna), along with dozens of adult young professional designers, were among the 10 accepted for exhibition in a glass container and then on the catwalk on 16th June 2004. She made it all the way to the Vogue website!! Take a look at the way that coat is opened and closed, it is quite interesting. She is still in the primary school: a bright, loving and somehow wise girl. At four she suddenly started to teach herself reading and writing. Now she has but A's. (Actually her brother too. Or almost.) "And what would you like to do when you'll grow up, Calina?" "Now I think I'd be a primary school teacher or a painter, but till then I'm sure it would change ten times!" .However, she wishes to become a painter since she was four. "And from where do you have your ideas?" "From my angels!" Well, she is one herself. |
